The Ripple Project

CLEAN and SAFE WATER
As IAP continues to partner with communities and organizations around the world, we are constantly confronted with limited access to clean and safe water. Not simply for our use while in-country, but for the daily use and consumption of those we service with our projects. Access to clean and safe water is the foundation of a successful community and the daily pursuit of this invaluable resource can often have a paralyzing effect on families as they strive to emerge from a life of poverty. Many children must skip school to travel for miles with their mothers to look for water. Once found, it is often contaminated and unsafe to drink. Water-borne illnesses wreak havoc on a family's ability to be productive at school, in the work place or even with basic daily activities.

Access to clean and safe water is paramount and must be addressed as IAP seeks to provide sustainable solutions to economic and humanitarian challenges around the world. The Ripple Project is passionate about the world's cry for water and has been tasked with implementing best practices and finding sustainable water solutions for our projects and other water needs that may present themselves as IAP continues to serve in areas of extreme poverty.

WATER FACTS

More people in the world have cell phones than access to a toilet.

884 million people lack access to safe water supplies. That is 1 out of every 8 humans.

3.5 million people die each year from water related diseases.

Water and sanitation crisis claim more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.

In just 1 day, more than 200 million hours of a women's time is consumed in the collection of water for domestic use.

88% of cases of diarrhea worldwide are attributed to unsafe water, inadequate sanitation or insufficient hygiene.

90% of all deaths casused by diarrhea are children under 5 years of age.

Investing in drinking water and sanitation would result in 272 million more days of school attendance each year.

The word Ripple means to "form small waves". This name communicates IAP's belief that we have an opportunity to make waves, albeit sometimes small, that can have an impact on specific communities across the globe. We believe if we can make a difference in one person's life, this can impact a family, a community and potentially the world!

Through education, training and implementation of water technologies, we can help change paradigms and equip communities with the knowledge and resources to be good stewards of existing water supplies (protection from biological and industrial contaminants). Where water is scarce, efforts will be made to procure adequate, sustainable water sources through conventional and innovative techniques depending on the area, climate and typography.

We are excited about this new opportunity to serve the world's poor by providing safe and clean water. We are equally excited by how you will respond to this great need. Please consider what you can do to partner with us as we meet the most basic need of our global community.
